Printing your file - FAQ
How do I get my STL file printed in New Zealand?
Upload it at partdrop.co.nz/create - choose the upload tab, drop in the file, and you'll see the exact NZD price for your actual model, calculated from its real size and material use. Approve it and we print it in our Tauranga workshop and courier it to you. Uploading and pricing are free; you pay only for the print.
What file formats do you accept?
STL, OBJ, 3MF, GLB and PLY, up to 50MB. If your file is in something else, most slicers and CAD tools export STL - or email us and we'll tell you the quickest path.
How is the price worked out?
From your file's real geometry - its printed size and how much material and printer time it needs - not a quote queue or a guess. Prices run small $22–45, medium $45–80, large $80–130, xl $130–200. Shipping is added at checkout and depends on where it's going. A chunky solid part prices higher than a slender one of the same height because it genuinely uses more material.
What material and colours do you print in?
Standard PLA in one solid colour of your choice from eight - Warm White, Matte Black, Sunflower Yellow, Sky Blue, Navy Blue, Forest Green, Crimson Red and Walnut Brown - with multi-colour bands available at a surcharge. For parts with a job to do, we also print PETG (tough, water-resistant), ASA (outdoor/UV-stable), PC (high heat) and TPU (flexible) - email us for a hand quote on those.
How big can you print?
Up to 245mm in any direction - the full build plate. If your model won't fit or can't print reliably at the size you chose, we tell you before you pay, not after.
Do you check my file before printing?
Yes. Every upload goes through automated print-preparation - we check it's watertight, orient it sensibly, and flag problems like separated parts before anything is charged. If a file can't be printed well, we say so rather than shipping something disappointing.
How fast will it arrive?
Everything is made to order: your part prints after you approve the price, then couriers domestically - days, not the weeks an offshore service takes, with no customs. On a deadline? Message us first and we'll tell you honestly what's possible.
Don't have a 3D file? We also turn photos into printable models.
